Daniel Maina is the second born of a family of three, and has experienced a lot of trials and tribulations in his journey to establish himself as an artist-as have many other talented Kenyan artists.

However, despite all of the adversity that he has had to overcome, Daniel has used his art to capture the imagination and vitality of the Kenyan culture in his paintings, and his paintings are much sought after both in the local and international marketplace.

Daniel’s passion and vision are reflected in every work of art that he produces. His “trademark” paintings of people with big feet encompass his story of the “big step” which he was forced to take in order to fulfill his dreams. Every painting that he produces is unique, and his art covers a spectrum of themes across the Kenyan culture.

Born on 20 February 1968, Daniel spent most of his early life in the Coast Province, living in both his rural home and the urban center of Mombasa.

After facing a tough childhood, Daniel was forced to drop out of school and work to support his siblings, mum and grandparents.

After much struggle, Daniel now has the opportunity to unleash his creativity on the canvas, and can be more optimistic about his future.
